BIOL 301: Animal Behavior

Semester Hours 4

This course explores the mechanistic, ecological, and evolutionary foundations of animal behavior. Students examine both proximate mechanisms (genetic, neural, physiological, and developmental) and ultimate explanations (evolutionary and phylogenetic) of behavior. Topics include development, the neural and physiological basis of behavior, foraging, predator avoidance, communication, social behavior, reproduction, and parental care. The course integrates primary literature, discussion, and experiential learning to develop skills in hypothesis generation, experimental design, and critical evaluation of scientific research.
