The experience of studying or interning abroad can add immeasurably to any student's education. Emory & Henry offers a variety of both long-term and short-term study and intern abroad programs. Emory & Henry Abroad courses are taught by faculty in the regular semester with a short-term study abroad experience at spring break or the end of the term. Other students study or intern abroad during the semester or summer. All of these experiences meet the Global Citizenship requirement.
The university assists students in identifying appropriate programs in a variety of international settings. The student considering such an experience should consult Dr. Celeste Gaia, the Director of International Education. Students are required to pay a program fee for faculty-led Emory & Henry Abroad courses. This fee covers transportation, accommodations, excursions, and most meals. Semester and summer programs are operated through partnerships with universities abroad. When students are abroad for the semester, they remain enrolled and pay their regular tuition at Emory & Henry and pay for their housing and meals in the international location. Students are responsible for airfare, transportation, passport, and other travel expenses. Travel grants are available for eligible students.
Students must meet the deadlines and academic requirements for the study abroad application to participate in these programs. To determine how financial aid and scholarships will be applied when a student is abroad, they must meet with the Director of Financial Aid the semester prior to their study abroad. Scholarship and grant opportunities for study and interning abroad can be found on the Emory & Henry University International Education website.
Prior to enrolling at another institution with the intent of transferring courses back to Emory & Henry, a student must have the specific courses pre-approved by the faculty advisor, the chair of the department in which the course falls, and the Provost. If a student pursues study abroad without pre-approval of courses, a review of the course record may be required and the award of Emory & Henry University credit cannot be assured.
Any grade earned in a course taught abroad by E&H faculty will appear as the regular letter grade on the transcript. These grades are calculated into the GPA. In courses taught at other universities by non-E&H faculty, students must earn the equivalent of a C or above at the host institution. Grades earned at institutions abroad are not calculated into the GPA; however, the credits will be transferred with prior approval.
