Writing and World Language Placement

Writing: A student with unusually high verbal scores on the SAT or ACT may be exempted from English 100 and 101. In order to fulfill university requirements, such a student still must enroll in and complete an upper-level writing course. Credit is granted only for the writing course which the student completes.

World language: Students interested in placing out of the 2-semester language requirement can request an oral language evaluation administered by a World Languages faculty member. 

Students can also satisfy the 2-semester language requirement through the following documented achievements:

  1. Passing the Seal of Biliteracy Exam in high school.
  2. Scoring at least a 3 on the AP Spanish Language and Culture - or - the AP Spanish Literature and Culture exam.
  3. Completing a dual-enrollment Spanish course equivalent to Spanish 101 and 102.
  4. Transferring in Spanish college courses equivalent to Spanish 101 and 102.
  5. Presenting as a Heritage Language Learner to be confirmed by the Chair of the Cultural Studies Department.
